JOB DESCRIPTION, HOMEMAKER
QUALIFICATIONS:
Homemakers are required to complete a basic training program of 20 hours of classroom instruction. This
program will also include 5 hours of practical experience.
The program will cover basic Homemaker duties as well as an orientation to basic human needs.
Upon completion of the homemaker training program, each homemaker must pass a final examination in
order to be eligible to function as a homemaker.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Services are provided under a Plan of Care and shall be supervised by a Registered Nurse licensed in R.I.,
or by an individual with a bachelor’s degree in social work, home economics, gerontology, or a related
field.
Homemakers must be punctual, responsible, caring, and competent.
Typical homemaker duties include:
● Change bed linens (unoccupied)
● Grocery shopping
● General housekeeping (washing dishes, cleaning kitchen, cleaning bathroom, etc.)
● Meal preparation
● Shopping, running errands
● Laundry and ironing
Homemakers must keep a log or record of all services provided daily.
